Statement Regarding Mask Requirement in Schools for Navasota ISD

Upon review of updated guidelines and requirements that remain in place from the Texas Education Agency (TEA), Navasota ISD has made the decision to continue requiring masks for the remainder of the school year for the safety of our students, staff, and community. Current COVID-19 protocols and safety measures taken by NISD have helped curb the spread of COVID-19 on campuses and have contributed to keeping Navasota schools open and learning in person.

TEA guidelines require contact tracing when a student or staff member has tested positive for COVID-19. The mask requirement has contributed to low numbers of transmission and the number of students and staff needing to be sent home to quarantine, due to close contact. If the mask requirement is removed in classrooms, there is a high probability the number of students and staff needing to quarantine may increase at a rapid rate. Keeping current mask practices in place will allow us to keep students and staff on campus when COVID-19 cases do arise.

Our school board has the local control to remove this mask mandate, according to current TEA guidelines. The NISD School Board and district administrators will continue to monitor the situation and in the future, when the time is right, we may take formal action to modify or eliminate the mask mandate for all campuses.

We’re all in this together and we believe this is the right decision to make with current information and requirements. We appreciate your support in helping us keep our students, staff, and community safe.

Statement from Navasota ISD Regarding Governor Abbott's Announcement

Navasota ISD Family & Rattler Nation -

You may have heard that Governor Abbott announced today that Texas will remove the mask mandate and reopen businesses to 100% capacity effective NEXT Wednesday, March 10th. Businesses may choose whether or not they open to full capacity.

As a reminder, all current protocols remain in effect at this time.

TEA has not released any information or guidance on schools at this point, but is expected to do so either this afternoon or tomorrow. We will wait for that information from TEA before we begin to make any decisions that affect Navasota ISD and the protocols for the remainder of the year.

As soon as we have that information, we will share it out as soon as possible.
