What is Human Trafficking?
Human trafficking is the recruitment, harboring, transporting, or obtaining of a person for labor or services through force, fraud, or coercion for the purpose of involuntary servitude, slavery, or forced commercial sex acts. While it is a global issue, it is also a serious concern in Texas.
Impact on School-Aged Children
School-aged children are especially vulnerable to exploitation.
Cases have been confirmed on school grounds, at school events, and involving individuals known to victims, including classmates. Traffickers may use threats, physical, sexual, or emotional abuse, and deprivation of basic needs. Many victims continue attending school and interact regularly with staff.
Recognizing the Responsibility to Report
All individuals are required by law to report suspected child abuse or neglect. School professionals—including teachers, nurses, counselors, and administrators—are mandated reporters and must report suspected abuse or neglect within 48 hours of becoming aware of concerns.

Take immediate action and report through appropriate child protective services or law enforcement channels according to state law and district policy.
