2010-2011 Academic Calendar Survey
The district advisory team has begun the process of developing the
academic calendar for the 2010-2011 school year and would like input
from district staff and the community. Please share your thoughts about the current academic calendar
(2009-2010) and any changes you might like to recommend for next year's

Basketball Teams Undefeated in District 24-AAA Play
The Rattler basketball teams remain undefeated in district play heading
into action Tuesday, Jan. 12, against Cameron. The boys team is 3-0 in
league play and 12-3 on the year while the state's top ranked girls
team is 4-0 in league play and 27-1 on the season. |
Booster Club Golf Tournament
The Navasota Athletic Booster Club will host a golf tournament Jan. 30.
The booster club just completed a $40,000 renovation of the softball

Board of Trustees Names Gesch Superintendent  The Navasota ISD Board of Trustees held
a regular meeting Monday, Jan. 11, during which the board named Rory S. Gesch Superintendent
of Schools for Navasota ISD. Gesch was named the Lone Finalist at the December meeting
and has been the school district's interim superintendent since August 1. Gesch
served as assistant superintendent for three years, coming to Navasota from
Stamford ISD where he served as an administrator, a high school principal, and an
alternative school principal.
Also,
the school board recognized University Interscholastic League academic
competitors from High Point Elementary, John C. Webb Elementary,
Navasota Intermediate and Navasota Junior High School. RESULTS PHOTOS
Superintendent
Gesch reviewed the Academic Excellence Indicator System report for
2009. The AEIS report is the annually published report providing
information to communities regarding school district and campus

Also, the school board approved the
employment of Maria Del Carmen Alvarado as a third grade bilingual teacher at

What Will My Child Learn? CSCOPE Develops Parent Information Resource Center 
Parents
can now access the CSCOPE Parent Portal to learn more about the
components that make up CSCOPE - the curriculum support system used by
Navasota ISD. In addition to the curriculum, CSCOPE includes resources
for implementation, curriculum monitoring, and accountability measures.
Lessons are aligned with the Texas Essential Knowledge & Skills.
The parent portal includes videos covering vertical alignment, the
instructional focus document, and the 5-E Model of Instruction as well
as Websites relevant to each content area and access to the concepts
for every unit in each content area at each grade level.

Access Digital Learning Resources Through ProQuest 
Teachers,
students, and parents can now access ProQuest K-12 Online Resources.
The school district recently expanded its subscription to ProQuest's
databases to include greater access to information and resources in all
curriculum areas. ProQuest K-12
is a digital learning resource provider for K-12 education
institutions. ProQuest offers up-to-date online reference databases,
standards-based digital curriculum, and easy-to-use tools for preparing
lessons and is a leader in the K-12 education information market.
ProQuest offers a growing family of classroom-focused,
subscription-based research tools. Many of these education solutions
offer elementary schools, middle schools, and high schools content that is reading
level-linked and supports 21st century information literacy.

Releasing the Spirit of Academic Success 
Alfred "Coach" Powell of the Visionary Leaders Institute visited with
junior high and high school students last week, encouraging them to
take advantage of their opportunities as the new semester gets started.
The
Visionary Leaders Institute returned to Navasota ISD to meet with
faculty and staff for a second time and to meet with students, parents
and members
of the community for a first time. Ako Kambon and
Powell hosted a community forum Wednesday, Jan. 6, to discuss how to
facilitate more parental involvement in schools along with improving
school
effectiveness and achieving diversity and cultural competency. Powell
visited with students at both campuses Thursday.
